Last day in the Land of Fruit and Nuts, screw the hippies, too many brewpubs, and a late night run to the airport.
I woke early as we were going to start the day with breakfast and a trip to Alcatraz. We drove through downtown to find a hole-in-the-wall restaurant that was supposed to be a local treasure, only to find a complete lack of secure parking, hoardes of roaming vagrants, and a line wrapped around the block just to get some food. You'd think this would be a description of Haight-Ashbury and the piles of wanna-be hippies, but no.

We gave up and headed toward the Haight-Ashbury area to The Pork Store Cafe. I don't need to say much more about the cuisine, but it is definitely not vegan, and that was exactly what we needed in the center of the hippie world. It took a while to get a seat, and the place was like a busy diner, but it was worth it. We will return some day.

We spent the rest of the day driving around town and touring the brewpubs as we saw all the normal tourist sights.

A brief list of the places...

Magnolia Pub & Brewery

Beach Chalet Brewery

21st Amendment

Steelhead Brewing

San Francisco Brewing

Gordon Biersch

The Toronado

I'm going to continue to build the journals as I have time, but below are a variety of pics from different trips, not in any special order at this time.
Giant chile relleno breaded with Ritz crackers at Chino Bandito in Phoenix Arizona. Notice the Fat Tire in the background! This place was featured on Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives with host Guy Fieri.

On our travels we frequently reference the Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives for places to eat when there are no local brewpubs, or we have run through the entire menu at the local brewpub :-)

Shrimp & Grits at Bosco's Brewery in Memphis TN.
Drinking lots of Big Ass Beers on Beale St in Memphis!
Walking Beale St in Memphis.
Mark Devlin at Boscos Brewery in Memphis
Damon, Scott, and me at Tampa Bay Brewing Company in Ybor City, FL
Guadalajara Mexico, home of the biggest shot of tequila I had ever received in my life! Use the Corona bottle as an acurate reference of how much tequila that really was! Those are full size rum and cokes to the right side! This was at the bar inside the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Prince Humphrey and James Hardin during our brew pub tour of eastern Michigan. We were at Big Rock Brewery in this cel-phone quality pic
Fermenters at Dragonmead Brewery in Warren Michigan
Matt Behringer beside a full size standup of Norm from the TVĀ series "Cheers" at the original Cheers in Boston. The place is actually called "The Bull & Finch."
